The President Reasserts His Dedication To Create More Opportunities For Athletes

On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reaffirmed his commitment to improve the sports sector in the Maldives and create more opportunities for athletes during his office. He made this remark while speaking to the National Table Tennis team after they returned back to the country post the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games 2021. The team had a successful time at the games and secured the bronze title at the women’s team event. The 5th Islamic Solidarity Games are being held from the 9th of August to the 18th of this month, with Turkiye hosting this year’s games in Konya.

At the meeting held to commemorate the achievement of the women’s table tennis team, the President stated that his administration is striving to support more athletes that are showing great proficiency in different sports fields. In addition to this, President Solih extended his congratulations to the team and commended them for their bravery and courage shown at the games. He further expressed his gratitude for the team in upholding the dignity of the Maldives in the tournament.

While speaking about their accomplishment, the President remarked that it was achieved with the diligent hard work and time given to the sport by the athletes and their parents. In this regard, he even thanked the parents for their undying support to their children. Moreover, President Solih discussed the accolades won by the team in past tournaments and said that he is confident the team would go on achieving more remarkable accomplishments in the future as well.

During the meeting, the President emphasized on the efforts of the administration in developing the sports sector in the Maldives and stated that initiatives are underway to scout more young athletes from outside the Male’ region and provide them with the chance to compete in tournaments. He added that victories in international competitions bring fame and pride to the nation.

The meeting which took place at the President’s Office to celebrate the Table Tennis team, saw other high class government officials taking part in this historical moment. This includes Vice President Faisal Naseem, cabinet ministers and senior government officials as well.
