The Government of Japan Donates Three Assistive Vehicles to MAPD

Yesterday, The Government of Japan gifted three assistive vehicles to Maldives Association of Persons with Disability (MAPD). The donation was facilitated under Japan’s Grand Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

The vehicles were officially handed over at a ceremony, by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency Mrs. Takeuchi Midori. Valued at a price of USD 209,667 the assistive vehicles are of the brand Toyota Hiace GDH322R and can accommodate up to 7 sheets and 2 wheelchairs.

The donation came in adherence to the Grand Contract that was signed on March 16th, 2021 between the Embassy of Japan in Maldives and MAPD. Through this contract, the Embassy will aid in providing accessibility to disabled persons in areas such as education, employment, healthcare and social surroundings in an affordable and safe manner.

The GGP scheme founded in 1996 is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) and aims to empower people at grassroots levels. The GGP scheme is implemented in the Maldives by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives. Through this scheme, it has brought tremendous improvements to key areas of the country such as education, health, transportation and energy with the objective of bringing sustainable development to the country.
