Alif Alif Atoll Education Centre’s Library Gets An Upgrade Through BML’s Community Fund Campaign

The largest local bank operating in the Maldives, Bank of Maldives Plc. (BML), is one of the biggest supporters of community development projects. In this regard, the Bank introduced its ‘Aharenge Bank Community Fund’ which is a nationwide campaign instigated to empower local individuals to contribute to the community by way of sustainable projects. All winning proposals are granted MVR 50,000 to transform their ideas into reality.

One of such winning proposals under this campaign was submitted by Mr. ismail Shimaau for the development of the library at Alif Alif Atoll Education Centre based in the island of Rasdhoo. As per Mr. Shimaau, the idea for this project came about due to the fact that the books in the library were outdated and quite limited considering how spacious the library area is and the fact that there were 235 students studying at the institution in total ranging from LKG to 10th Grade.

Through funding from the Bank, the library has gone through a major transformation in which it is presently equipped with new book stands, furniture and a versatile range of new books. A total of 1000 books was newly added to the library collection with over 500 books accounting under the Community Fund whilst the rest were received as gifts and donations.
