Maldives Will Accept An Independent and Sovereign Nation And The Conservation of Our Liberty, States President

On Tuesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that the country will not stand for anything but an independent and sovereign nation and the preservation of our liberty. He said this while speaking on a televised address to mark the occasion of the 57th Independence Day of the Maldives celebrated on July 26th.
 
During his address, the President congratulated all Maldivians on reaching the 57th Independence day and remarked that Islamic faith is the core that secures independence and sovereignty of the nation and mentioned it as the greatest blessing bestowed on us. On this day, he remembered the historical events preceding to the country’s independence and marked Maldivians as people who long for freedom, liberty and unity and would go to great lengths in achieving those values. The president also paid tribute to the martyrs of the country who died to preserve the independence.
 
The President signified the vital role played by domestic and foreign affairs in preserving independence and stated that the government’s foreign policy is designed to assist development while protecting our freedom. He said that the peoples’ safety and security is of utmost importance to the state and nation’s security forces are continuously surveil-lancing domestic and foreign interventions that may pose threats to the liberty of the Maldives.
 
In this regard, he even emphasized the prominence of holding onto Islamic values to appeal to the best interest of sovereignty and prevent adverse influences from a rapidly evolving world. In his speech, the president also discussed the importance of peace within society and urged individuals to respect differences of opinion and seek to listen to conflicting point of views. He mentioned that an unsettled society does not depict independence.
 
While speaking about the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russian war, the president said that the state is working to minimize the effect of rising world inflation on citizens. He further stated that it is the government’s responsibility to lessen the negative impact experienced by citizens, in respect to the changing geo-political and economic landscape of the world.
 
The independence day is commemorated on every July 26th to mark the freedom from the British Protectorate status.
