Customs Maldives Statistics For June Show A Hopeful Increase In Exports This Year

On Sunday, Custom Maldives published its statistics for the month of July with their revenue increasing by an astonishing 44% (equivalent to 394M)
 
The new statistics revealed this Sunday shows a positive image in the export market, with exports rising by 60% when compared to the same duration in 2021. The major exporting countries in the market include Thailand comprising 60% of the market share. Other countries on the list include Germany with a 10% share in the market, United Kingdom and France, European countries with the exception of India contributing a 3% to the market.
 
All of the exports in June were of fish products with frozen skipjack tuna being heavily exported when compared to other products. Prepared or preserved skipjack tuna was the second most exported product with frozen belly flap and yellow fin tuna in loins and chilled also on the market.
 
When it comes to imports, a significant increment in the level of imports were seen, with a 78% growth when compared to last year June. The greatest contribution to the import market was from Oman constituting for 22% of the market with their fuel. India and china takes the second and third position with a 12% and 11% share in the market. UAE and Malaysia is also visible in the market with both countries tied at 8% in the import market. Fuel being on the top, the second most imported material is machinery and mechanical and electrical appliances. Food items also played a vital role in the import market as well as base metal and articles of base metal.
 
Vessel movements have also grown in this year when compared to last year’s statistics. While 93 vessels arrived this year, 114 vessels departed from our ports. The number of declarations increased this year with 19,313 processed ones so far into the year.bThe statistical report for this month reveals a hopeful image that the country is recovering from its pandemic loss during the last two years.
