The People’s Majilis To Host Two Competitions To Commemorate “International Democracy Day”

The People’s Majilis announced today that two competitions will be hosted by them to commemorate “International Democracy Day” on 15th September. The two competitions are a drawing contest and an essay writing competition both themed under the heading “People’s rule-the role of the People’s Majilis”. The theme explores how the People’s Majilis was founded and the rules that governed the roles of the Majilis at different time periods of history and how well those roles were implemented by the parliament during those times.
 
The purpose of the competitions is to create awareness about the People’s Majilis in the Maldives and familiarize the people to its works. Another aim of this event is to help people recognize the rules and regulations of Democracy itself.
 
Both competitions are categorized into 4 age groups namely ages 14 and below, ages 14-18, ages 18-35 and ages 35 and above. A team of judges decided by the administrative department of the Majilis will assess the drawings and essays. For each category prize money is allocated for the 1st,2nd and 3rd place. With 1st place getting a MVR 2000 and 2nd place receiving MVR 1500 while MVR 1000 is allocated for 3rd winner.
 
Apart from these winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place is also selected from the entire competition with 1st title getting MVR 5000 and the runner-up securing MVR 4000. The 2nd runner-up is given MVR 3000 as prize money. The winners of the essay competition will be awarded with the cash money and a recognition award on International Democracy Day while the winners from the drawing contest will awarded on the opening event of the art exhibition where all contestants’ drawings will be exhibited.
 
Interested candidates can email their essays to pes@majilis.gov.mv  and drawings to admin@majilis.gov.mv before 14:00 on 1st September 2022. Along with the email, a copy of the ID card and the application form must be submitted. The application form is available from the reception of the People’s Majilis or can be downloaded from their website.
 
The People’s Majilis reserves the right to use any of the drawings and essays submitted in the competitions in their works. All essays and drawings should be in line with the guidelines published regarding the competition. If any contestant violates the guidelines, the judges are liable to disqualify or even deduct points from the works.
