Just yesterday, President of Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had addressed the occasion of the 55th anniversary since Maldives had become a member state of the United Nations (UN) through a message to the international community. Today, on behalf of all Maldivians, our President delivers remarks to an international audience, at a High Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly, being held at a day stretch, to observe the 75th Anniversary since the formation of UN.

Due to the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19, the meeting will primarily be in virtual format with pre-recorded statements from heads of the states and heads of UN. The theme for this years’ meeting is “The future we want; the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism – confronting COVID-19 through effective multilateral action”

Our President has remarked that Maldives is prepared to work with the rest of the global community hand-in-hand to tackle the greatest challenge this year; the outbreak of COVID-19 and stressed that the more vulnerable countries such as Maldives, would need assistance from global peers to revive our economies and other affected industries.
