Morocco Inaugurates Honorary Consulate Based in the Maldives

On July 18, the Honorary Consulate of Morocco in the Maldives was formally opened. Ahmed Latheef, the Maldives' Foreign Minister, raised the Moroccan flag at the consulate for the first time. The Honorary Consul of Morocco in the Maldives, Ahmed Nashid, and the Moroccan Ambassador to the Maldives, Mohamed Maliki, both attended the inauguration ceremony.

Since the two nations established diplomatic ties, Morocco has opened its first consulate in the Maldives. The governments of the two nations consider this to be a significant step in strengthening the bilateral ties between them in areas of shared interest.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moroccan Ambassador Maliki also paid Foreign Secretary Latheef a courtesy visit. Discussions on advancing people-to-people and cultural ties as well as the bilateral relationship between Morocco and the Maldives took place during the meeting. On February 4th, 1988, Morocco and the Maldives established diplomatic relations.
