Transport Ministry and Civil Aviation Revises Taxi Fares in the Greater Male’ Area

Taxi fares in the Greater Male' Region have increased, as per a revision announcement made by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. The Ministry also stated that the revisions had to be made due to the rise in fuel prices.
 
The ministry consequently announced that the fare for trips within Male or Hulhumale has increased from MVR25 to MVR30. In the meantime, the top fare for a trip on Phase I between Male and Hulhumale has gone up from MVR75 to MVR85. There is an MVR100 cap on the cost of a trip between Male and Hulhumale Phase II.
 
The cost of travel between Male and Hulhule has also been increased, from MVR60 to MVR75, according to the transport ministry. MVR75 has been set as the fare for trips between Hulhumale Phase I and Hulhule, and MVR85 has been set as the fare for trips between Hulhumale Phase II and Hulhule. Between Hulhumale's Phases I and II, a trip will cost MVR40.
 
At the same time that taxi drivers were calling for a change in the set prices, the new taxi rates were released. Before announcing the new rates, the transport ministry spoke with the taxi drivers.
