The Education Sector Research Group's Findings Released by the President's Office

The Education Sector Research Group was established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to identify challenges faced by teachers in the education sector. The group's findings were released on Monday by the President's Office. The report, titled "Edhurunge Fahnu: Gonjehun thakaai hushahelhunthah," is available online at the President's Office's official website.

At the 2019 A-Level Top Achievers awards ceremony, the President made the decision to form a research group to assess the nation's educational landscape and pinpoint the causes of a lack of interest in starting and maintaining careers in the field.

The six-person research team, established on October 31, 2021, was also tasked with investigating the challenges faced by educators and other sector employees. The research team's conclusions would make a significant contribution to solving pressing problems in the education sector.

On March 9, 2022, the research team delivered its findings to President Solih, following which the administration started making plans to implement the suggestions. Low pay, a heavy workload, a lack of sufficient resources, and a lack of safeguards for teachers' rights were all listed as contributing factors in the report. Additionally, the report offered 17 suggestions for resolving these problems.

A new and improved salary structure with significant raises to the pay of teachers and other education sector employees was also unveiled by President Solih on May 1, 2022.
