The police station in Hulhumale' Phase II has been formally opened by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Minister of State for Home Affairs Ali Nazeer performed the ceremonial opening on July 3rd.
As part of the government's efforts to launch infrastructure development projects across the nation, State Minister Nazeer stressed the importance of developing security services alongside necessary services like the water supply and sewage system during his speech at the ceremony. As a result, he stressed the importance of having a sufficient plan to uphold peace in densely populated areas like Hulhumale.
Additionally, State Minister Nazeer issued a warning that organized and dangerous crime is on the rise and acknowledged the need to intensify national security services' efforts to combat it and stop people from being recruited for criminal activity. According to him, security services must put plans in place to preserve community peace in light of changes in criminal activity.
State Minister Nazeer further stated that plans to develop water supply and sewerage systems should be more robust than those to stop and prevent crime because threats to the public should be stopped before they materialize. In order to lighten the burden on future generations, he also emphasized how crucial it is to keep citizens safe and reduce crime. He also expressed his belief that the police station would effectively serve the needs of the people of Hulhumale.
At the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannan Yusuf noted that although Maldivians and police officers interact every 20 seconds, the number of complaints made to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) is low in comparison to the number of crimes committed. Police officers are responsible for upholding the law and defending citizens' rights. As a result, he stated that more needs to be done to boost public confidence in the police department.
