After completing the Hunavaru Apprenticeship Program, 52 trainees were hired by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). In the three-month Hunavaru Apprenticeship Program, trainees received an internship at various corporate divisions and departments. Bus drivers, marine mechanics, and site supervisors’ roles were given priorities via this program.
The employment was established by MTCC on June 27th in which the CEO of MTCC, Mr Adam Azim presented certificates to the successful trainees. The program is a significant initiative of MTCC to prepare locals for the wide range of employment the company offers, according to CEO Azim, who spoke at the awarding ceremony. Mr Azim mentioned that four female bus drivers received training through the program and were granted bus licenses. He further expressed hope that the program would bring about a shift in perceptions of gender roles in the workforce.
The Hunavaru Licensing Program and the Hunavaru Technical Scholarship Program are two divisions of the Hunavaru Apprenticeship Programme. For the duration of the three-months, participants are given a monthly allowance of MVR 5k. Additionally, participants who reside on an island other than the island of the designated work site are provided with food and lodging as well.
