International Conference on Social Research and Innovation Kick-Starts at Villa College

On June 25, 2022, the Institute for Research and Innovation at Villa College officially opened the International Conference on Social Research and Innovation (ICSRI2022). Reframing our future: Putting people at the center is the theme of this year's conference. Since 2016, there have been six ICSRI conferences.

His Excellency President Mohamed Nasheed, Speaker of the People's Majlis, declared the conference open. He emphasized the significance and urgency of coordinating development with the natural environment in his opening keynote address. According to him, the development planning process must be centered on creating sustainable habitats and preserving and protecting the natural ecosystem.

Moreover, he highlighted the necessity of gathering information on research findings related to regional and local development as well as the shift to evidence-based policymaking. Villa College and other academic institutions may be particularly important in this regard.

In his opening remarks, Villa College Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar further explained that the conference theme this year is based on concepts from the UN Sustainable Development Goals in order to ensure that the discussion concentrates on empowering people to create a sustainable world, where we not only look to the future to ensure a safer and more sustainable planet for future generations, but also make our own lives better. In this regard, he also looked at how the Maldives have historically applied the idea of sustainability.

Furthermore, Dr. Mohamed Adil, the conference's chair, gave information about the conference's 8 tracks for paper submission. These include language, media, and communication, religion, art, culture, and tourism in addition to politics, policy, law, and governance. They also include psychology, education, and development, business management, finance, and corporate governance.

The International Journal of Social Research and Innovation (Vol. 6 Issue 1), a publication of the Institute for Research and Innovation at Villa College, was also released during the opening ceremony.

In addition to five keynote addresses from academics in India, Malaysia, Australia, and the UK, the two-day conference will feature five panel discussions on relevant subjects. The conference will feature the presentation of 66 research papers in total. A number of sponsors, partners, and endorsers have also provided support for this year's conference.
