VP Faisal Officially Inaugurates Rooftop Solar Project by STELCO

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) celebrates 25 years in successful operations with a special ceremony held to mark the event where Vice President, Faisal Naseem was in attendance. In 1997, STELCO was established as a 100 percent state-owned enterprise to provide power to Malé City. As of 2020, the company provides power to over 35 islands across the island nation.
 
VP Faisal officially launched STELCO's rooftop solar project, "Avikatha," at the event. It would include the installation of solar panels in all of the company's power plants. Former managing directors who have worked for STELCO for more than 25 years, as well as other long-serving employees and top-performing managers, received honors from the Vice President.


 
The environmentally friendly “Avikatha” scheme will be opened for public from July on wards as per the statements made by STELCO. To participate in the scheme, the applicant must have approval from the house owner, have at least 100 sq meters on the room, roof must have direct sunlight access and the roof must have the capability to hold 150 kg.
 
Furthermore, VP spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of energy in today's contemporary society, as well as the enormous responsibility and work required to ensure uninterrupted service. While STELCO provides services on 35 islands across the country, the Vice President discussed the importance of the company's management in developing a capable and efficient workforce. He also expressed his appreciation for the company's employees' hard work.


 
Regarding the importance of SOEs in the administration's development initiatives, the Vice President thanked them for their assistance in carrying out President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's promises. He also discussed the need of having an inclusive and cohesive workplace where persons with disabilities are supported and encouraged.
