Covid is On The Rise Again – Mask Up & Stay Safe!

Health Protection Agency of Maldives has released a press warning the citizens of another COVID-19 spike on the rise again. According to HPA's weekly COVID-19 figures, the Maldives registered 142 instances last week, representing a 69 percent increase over the previous week. The instances from last week include 50 from the Greater Male' Region, 40 from inhabited islands in atolls, and 52 from resorts, industrial islands, and other areas.
 
The COVID-19 positive rate and hospitalizations have also increased this month, according to HPA. As a result, 11 persons were admitted to hospitals for COVID-19 therapy in the first 12 days of June, compared to 15 in the entire month of May.
 
Furthermore, HPA has encouraged the public to take preventive steps to avert the spread of COVID-19. It is highly recommended for anyone who is experiencing symptoms to get tested at the earliest convenience and isolate themselves to protect others. Persons with symptoms, as well as high-risk individuals and their close connections, are also advised to wear face masks when in public.
 
Additionally, HPA has recommended anyone who have not yet completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination to do so. The COVID-19 vaccine is available to everyone above the age of 12 years old. A booster shot is also available to people who finished their second dose more than six months ago.
