Meet HDC’s Aspiring Landscape Architects! Making Ideas into Reality

The future of Hulhumale’ City, meet the talented and professional Landscape Architects of Housing Development Corporation. Landscape architects help people feel more at home in Hulhumalé by transforming open public spaces into scenic and sustainable green spaces that promote interaction, recreation, and human well-being.

These professionals make use of greenery, water-sensitive urban design, and ecosystem-based adaptation concepts that are appropriate for the local environment. Urban parks, streetscapes, and open plazas, for example. To elaborate, one of HDC’s major values is sustainability, and in keeping with that, these landscape architects follow the same path in creating an inclusive city.

HDC’s team is constantly looking for new ways to create a welcoming and accessible environment for people of all ages, spreading awareness and offering their expertise where the public is lacking. Despite being well-planned, the urban farming project was implemented quickly in the midst of a global pandemic.

The project was created to provide a safe haven for young and new generation farmers while also promoting food security through sustainable farming practices. They are ecstatic to see their ideas transform into designs and shape spaces in Hulhumalé. It's not just about making the landscape look nice; it's about integrating services that strike a balance between human well-being and environmental sustainability. The landscape and its visual beauty make up the majority of what we see, but some of the work done by the corporation’s landscape architects is hidden from view.

It includes the tiniest details, such as choosing the type of park benches, as well as the most important details, such as ensuring universal accessibility in all public spaces and planting trees that provide the most shade. The team's knowledge spans Hulhumalé and beyond as they are in charge of the landscape design of the newly reclaimed picnic island "K.Kudagiri," as well as providing support for the design of streetscapes in Fuvahmulah City. The heritage district in Farukolhufushi, which is a completely unique upcoming development, is one of the most interesting projects they are designing.
