Under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, the Japanese government officially hands over four newly built classrooms to Nolhivaranfaru School in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

At a ceremony held in Hdh. Nolhivaranfaru School, Mrs. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, officially handed over the completed 4 classrooms in Hdh. Atoll Nolhivaranfaru School to the School Principal, Mr. Ahmed Ali, that was built under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project. Ms. Fathimath Naseer, Minister of State for Education, was present at the ceremony, along with officials from the Ministry of Education and the School Management team.

This assistance is in accordance with the Grant Contract signed on March 10, 2016 between the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives and Hdh. Nolhivaranfaru School. The grant provided 90,850 USD (approximately 1.4 million Maldivian Rufiyya) to upgrade the school building (construction of four classrooms) to accommodate the island's growing student population.

The GGP is part of the Embassy of Japan in Maldives' Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA), which aims to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in a variety of areas, including education, the environment, health, transportation, and energy, with the goal of contributing to the Maldives' long-term development.
