Japan Pledges USD 5.1 Million For Marine And Traffic Police

As per a press released by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives, the Government of Japan has pledged USD 5.1 million to improve the Maldives Police Service's operational capabilities in order to improve maritime security and safety, as well as road traffic operations.
 
Mrs. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, signed the grant agreement at a signing ceremony that took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
The grant will be used to improve operational capabilities for maritime security and marine law enforcement activities in the maritime domain, such as responding to crimes, investigating, detaining offenders, and suppressing drug trafficking. Furthermore, improve road traffic operations and investigation capabilities, as well as activities to ensure road safety, crimes, and traffic-related accident and violation investigations.
 
Equipment are also set to be provided by Japan which includes laser speed guns, operational vessels, passenger craft, rubber inflatable boats, diving equipment, metal detectors, and small police cars.
