WHO Representative To Maldives Pays A Courtesy Call To First Lady

The World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Maldives, Dr Nazneen Anwar, made a courtesy call on First Lady Fazna Ahmed on Tuesday. The First Lady and the WHO Representative met at the President's Official Residence, Mulee'aage, to discuss areas of common interest and potential collaborations.

In her conversation with Dr. Anwar, First Lady Fazna expressed her appreciation to the WHO for the opportunity to participate in the high-level virtual panel discussion "We the people and our planet: healthy, resilient, sustainable," hosted by the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia to commemorate World Health Day. Speaking about the community's prevalence of substance misuse and mental health difficulties, the First Lady emphasized the necessity of tackling these issues early on by including them into the school curriculum, developing vital support systems, and raising public awareness.

Furthermore, Dr. Anwar discussed the ongoing mental health repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, including emotional and psychological implications. She emphasized the connections between mental health and drug usage and indicated interest in collaborating with the First Lady to solve these concerns. She also praised the Maldives' handling of the Covid-19 outbreak, saying the administration did a good job of engaging with the public on a daily basis as the pandemic spread.
