Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have launched the "Girls in Data" program, the Maldives' first data literacy initiative aimed specifically at girls. The goal of this program is to prepare the next generation of girls to use data skills to better understand the world and, ultimately, to make positive changes in the community.
Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives greeted the newly enrolled students with a special orientation session held at the Dhiraagu Head Office. The program is designed to teach participants how to collect, interpret, and draw conclusions from data.
Furthermore, it will allow them to learn data skills through real-world examples, and the program will include field trips to expose them to how some data-intensive organizations in the Maldives use their data. It is a 1.5-month program with 14 sessions aimed at girls in Grades 5 to 7 (ages 10 to 13), with the goal of inspiring girls to pursue STEM careers at a young age.
In addition to Girls in Data, Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have been running a program series called Girls to Code, which aims to teach coding to girls across Maldives with the common goal of inspiring and encouraging girls to pursue careers in technology.
