Maldives Sees Imports Worth MVR 4.7 Billion in April 2022

Because the Maldives is a small island nation with limited natural resources, the country relies heavily on international trade for basic necessities. Maldives Customs Services is the Maldives' government agency in charge of carrying out all customs-related activities related to the import and export of goods to and from the Maldives.
 
Here is a quick update on the Monthly Statistics of April 2022 as released by the Customs Services.


 
According to the report, 63% increase of product value imported was observed in comparison to April of 2020. This is a jump to MVR 4.7 Billion CIF Prize of imported goods to the country. Major import categories include Food Items excluding pork, Fuel and Machinery and Mechanical Appliances. Major importing countries to the Maldives were noted as Oman (30%), India (14%), UAE (11%), Malaysia (8%) and China (7%).
 
Furthermore, FOB value of exported good increased by 36% to MVR 231 Million compared to the same time last year. Major commodity exported from the Maldives include different varieties of Tuna sent to Thailand (62%), Germany (7%), India (6%), Italy (4%) and Bangladesh (4%).
 
A total of 37% increase was observed in customs revenue, totaling at MVR 362 Million. 18,964 declaration forms were processed at the customs and 109 vessels arrived while 109 were allowed to depart the national ports.
