What does it mean to be a nurse? To go above and beyond the call of duty. The first to work and the last to leave. The heart and the soul of caring. A unique soul that will pass through your life for a minute and impact it for an eternity. An empowered individual whom you may meet only for a 1- or 2-hour period, but who will put you and yours above theirs.
As we celebrate International Nurses Day 2022, the theme being “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health.”, it is important that we value the people who are putting their lives on the line every day in order to keep the world safe from its challenges. The pandemic has shown, now more than ever, the value of nurses, the true respect they deserve and their importance in the field of medicine.
As per the Maldivian Health Statistics, a total of 2987 nurses practiced in 2020 in which 89% were females and 11% were males. Out of which 41% were expats. In an era where Maldives is working towards encouraging more locals to be trained in different areas of the economy, it is important that we shine light in inspiring younger generations to grow in the field of medicine.
Happy Nurses Day to all the nurses practicing across Maldives! We appreciate all the hard work that you put in serving the community. We do not know where we would be without you in medicine. A warm thank you from Coral Glass!
