For the first time, Tree Top Hospital has completed ACL restoration using a Bone Patellar Tendon Graft. The anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, is a ligament that keeps the knee joint stable. In high-intensity sports, it is noted as a common injury across the globe.
A hamstring transplant is used to restore the ACL. The tendons of the hamstrings are found in the rear of the thigh. A bone-patellar tendon graft, which is the strongest graft available for ACL restoration, is employed in patients who have had repeated ligament injury revisions.
The successful surgery was performed by Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr Kanniraj Marimuthu who specializes in Joint replacement surgery, Sports Medicine Surgery, Shoulder Surgery and Knee Surgery.
He received his MBBS from Madras Medical College in India and then went on to Sawai Man Singh Medical College in India for orthopedic studies (MS Ortho). The Bombay Orthopedic Society gave him the All India Best Resident Orthopedic Surgeon Award for clinical and academic performance during his residency. Dr Kanniraj will be consulting patients at Tree Top Hospital from May 6th to 12th, 2022.
