STELCO MD Announces Ambitious Projects To Take Place

State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) of Maldives is certainly the biggest electricity provider for the citizens across the country. When it was formed in 1949, only around 50 houses were clients to the company. However, as time flew, the company now serves over 130,000 houses across Maldives.

To further enhance the quality of the electricity being provided to the clients, STELCO has always looked for new ways and introduced many new conveniences over the years of their service. To continue on this path, the Managing Director of STELCO, Ahmed Shareef has recently announced the upcoming projects and developments that is set to take place.

Shareef announced the installation of Solar Panels that will create 2 Mega Watts of energy across areas of Maldives in hopes of being less dependent on oil and going greener in the future. The project is moving forward as Energy Ministry has already given approval and Male’ City Council is in talks over the course as of now.

The project will be established sometime this year as per Shareef and he is urging the houseowners of Greater Male’ Area to come forth in giving their house roofs for rent in order to install more solar panels by STELCO under this project.

Another notable project that will take light during this year is the construction of government office buildings across the Greater Male’ Area in order for the government to release the rented public lands and to establish their offices in the designated construction buildings by STELCO.

What a remarkable journey of STELCO so far as the company has a brighter future aligned by expanding and broadening their services other than the main service they provide – electricity.
