Be Wary of the Increasing Number of Scam Callers

Recently, there has been a spike in cases where scammers pretend to represent a company or bank and call unsuspecting victims to try and steal money from them or their friends and family.

Scammers have been able to gain access to the victims’ social media accounts in this way and proceed to message their friends and family to send money to their own accounts. The phone calls are also very convincing, so it can be hard for the average person to realize that it is an illegitimate call. Some scammers even pretend to be calling from the bank to try and directly get their internet banking information, which allows them to steal money directly from the victim's account.

We highly advise people to exercise caution when receiving any phone calls from unconvinced numbers that say they are calling from a company or a bank. Do not share any OTP codes that are used for internet banking or card transactions. If you cannot verify the identity of the person you are speaking to, avoid sharing your personal information.

Unless you contact the bank regarding an issue, they are not likely to contact you first for any reason, whatsoever. So please be mindful.
