It was noted that islanders of Hoarafushi and to persons from neighboring islands have been providing support at various capacities to meet the deadline.

Hoarafushi Airport was developed by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) by division to two phases. As part of the first phase, 35 hectares of land was reclaimed in addition to securing the beach with fences prior to building a 1.2 kilometers long and 20 meters wide runaway. During the second phase, a fire building and a passenger terminal was completed.
