Purchase of Fish by MIFCO has Been Limited

The prominent Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) stated yesterday, that they will be limiting the amount of tuna they purchase from the southern atolls to 7 tonnes effective today.

This decision was made in light of the freezing capacity constraints in the southern centers, which are at their limit, especially with the Maldives currently going through a high fishing season. IN addition to this, they will also be reinstating the queue system.

The work was to be completed by last night, as Koodoo Fisheries Complex was purchasing the entire catch of fishing vessels queued in the Koodoo harbor.

This decision is supported by the government as they had authorized the purchase of all tuna caught by fishing vessels queued at Koodoo.

The current freezing capacity in the south includes,

  • Maandhoo Factory (120 tonnes)
  • Koodoo Factory (240 tonnes)
  • Jazeera 102 Vessel (120 tonnes)
  • Mahaakalaminja Vessel (75 tonnes)
  • Hulhumeedhoo Factory (60 tonnes)
