State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has taken Corporate Social Responsibility to a whole new level by the establishment of its new bus stop yesterday. What is so special about a bus stop right? I thought so too before I dwelled a bit onto it.
The new bus stop by is situated at Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ City. It was built with environment consciousness in mind under STELCO’s ‘GreenLife’ initiative which will operate on 100% renewable energy. The bus stop is air conditioned. It will display bus routes with live tracking and alert the passengers when a bus is nearing the stop. For aesthetic display, there are water fountains as well. Personally, the best part aspect of the new bus stop is the integration of USB charging ports for mobile devices. As I see it, this indeed is the definition of a ‘modern’ bus stop and I do not see any reason why it should not be your favorite one as well.
A special function was held yesterday for the official inauguration of the bus stop which was carried out by the Vice President, Mr. Faisal Naseem. He was joined by the Minister of Health, Mr. Ahmed Naseem, Minister at the President’s Office, Mr. Ahmed Sameer, Managing Director of STELCO, Mr. Hassan Mughnee and senior government officials for the function. Whilst addressing the audience, the Vice President, emphasized on the current administration’s commitment to improve public transportation services and the importance of civic responsibility.
