The Ministry of Economic Development is collaborating with the World Bank to launch a training program for workers that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The goal of this program is to help job seekers learn new skills in priority trades.
There are three main programs under this project;
1. Training Programme - for the following 3 areas:
The training program is designed for individuals who have had their employment negatively affected by COVID-19 and are looking to retrain or upskill in the aforementioned 3 areas. This program is also seeking interested training providers to conduct the required training for the previously mentioned areas. 2. Apprenticeship Programme
The apprenticeship program, which will be carried out in collaboration with State-Owned Enterprises, is targeted for those looking to receive locally and internationally recognized certificate level training that will help with re-employment, expand scope skills, and can create a pathway for full-time employment.
3. Self-Employed Support Program
Finally, the Self-Employed Support Program will be suited to self-employed individuals whose livelihoods were affected due to COVID-19. This program will provide financial and technical assistance to self-employed individuals, including freelancers and home-based workers.
The Self-Employed Support program will be open for application on 10th April 2022, while the Apprenticeship and Training Programme will be open for application on 17th April 2022. Applicants interested in applying for any of the aforementioned programs can do so on the online portal.
