EEG Now Available Under Sedation for the Little Ones

As the title says, Tree Top Hospital is now offering those who need it, the chance to get their EEG taken under sedation.

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a recording of brain activity. This is a painless test where small sensors are attached to the scalp to pick up the electrical signals produced by the brain. An EEG can be used to diagnose and monitor a number of brain conditions.

EEG should be preferably done in spontaneous sleep without sedation. However, it may be difficult to perform without sedation in some children. To tackle this challenge Tree Top Hospital offers EEG under sedation

EEG under sedation is usually done for children with behavioral disorders such as Autism and ADHD or for children who have difficulty with spontaneous sleep.

If your child cannot be still for the test they a sedative will be administered during this process. A sedative is a medicine that will calm the child. This procedure will only be done with an order by a specialist.
