This is the first training conducted at the Velana International Airport's newly established aerodrome simulator. The training was attended by a total of eight staff members and it was designed to meet the workforce requirements at Velana International and domestic and International airport towers in the Maldives. MACL manages all air traffic control towers at local and international airports.
The nine-week Maldives civil aviation authority (MCAA) authorized course was taught by internationally and nationally qualified instructors in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization's criteria (ICAO).
Mr. Ibrahim Thoha, MACL's acting Managing Director was the chief guest at the ceremony. In his address, he emphasized the critical nature of air traffic control training and education. He also said that with the introduction of ATC courses the company has saved millions of Ruffiya which would have otherwise been spent on trainings abroad and he specifically said this training saved close to half a million Ruffiya.
Additionally, he stated that MACL is working to fulfill the training needs of all MACL departments. MACL's principal objective is to develop and train staff to accommodate new technologies and services.
