MTCC Commences the Construction of Passenger Terminal and Fire Building in Hoarafushi Airport

Under the “Hoarafushi Airport Development Project”, a domestic airport is currently in development at Ha. Hoarafushi for ease of access to the island and its neighboring islands.

On 27th August 2020, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted by Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation for the construction of a Passenger Terminal – having the capacity to handle 100 passengers- and a Fire Building as part of the domestic airport currently well under way in construction.

MTCC announced that they had commenced the construction of the Passenger Terminal and Fire Building on 19th September 2020. Under the terms of the agreement between the Ministry and MTCC, MTCC must complete the construction work within 80 days. The expenditure for of the project is valued at MVR 13.8 million.

Prior to being contracted for the construction of the Passenger Terminal and Fire Building, “Hoarafushi Airport Development Project” itself was contracted to MTCC as well. They had completed the reclamation of 842,000 cubic meters of land as part of the domestic airport and also completed the construction of a 1120-meter revetment wall around the reclaimed area.

MTCC is hopeful about the full completion of the project by the end of the year.
