During the speech given by Environment Minister Aminath Shauna at the ceremony to hand over the Huraa's water and sewerage system and powerhouse to Fenaka Corporation on Tuesday, she announced that the government is currently working towards establishing solar power in over 100 islands all across the country.
The aim is to have at least 26% of electricity be solar-powered before the end of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's five-year term.
Minister Shauna spoke positively about the results of the home solar power system by Fenaka Corporation and said that the government's target is to install solar panels in at least 1,000 homes before the end of the year.
'The Maldives sees approximately 12 hours of daylight per day. The increase in energy production using the sun lowers the cost of producing energy day by day. Today, new and developing Technology has reached us,' the Minister said.
