Bank of Maldives Plc (BML) has been bringing major changes to the services they provide in the span of this month. In this regard, they have announced positive changes to several of its loans and financing schemes. Yesterday, they have announced another such change, but this time, to its Cash Agent Services.
Cash Agents affiliated with the bank are based on inhabited islands whereas they facilitate cash withdrawals. This service was introduced in 2014 in order to make basic banking easily accessible in remote islands where a physical bank presence does not exist.
Prior to the changes, customers making cash withdrawals via Cash Agents were charged a fee to MVR 10 for each transaction. From now on, over 40 Agents at selected islands will be facilitating cash withdrawals and deposit services in addition to credit card and loan repayments services without incurring any additional charges. This is pretty much no different than their ATMs services! As usual, customers can withdraw up to MVR 2000 per day via Cash Agents. The cash deposit limit is set at MVR 10,000 per day.
The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BML, Mr. Tim Sawyer notes that the changes were brought as a measure to strengthen their Cash Agent network; which in consequent eliminates the customer’s need to travel to the nearest ATM or a branch of the Bank to access its very basic services.
