Olympus Cinema is currently 67 years old and was the first cinema in the Maldives to screen films, all the way back in 1957.
The bid for the second phase of the India-funded project to upgrade Olympus Cinema has been issued by the Minister of Art Culture and Heritage.
The announcement was made on Tuesday and it said that they are looking for a contractor who can upgrade and modernize the cinema.
Which would include procurement and installation of a projector, installation of a server, surround sound, and some other technical work.
All bids are to be submitted by March 10.
In addition to this, the Ministry is also looking to contract a company to supply acoustic panels needed for acoustic treatment of the hall and rehearsal rooms at the cinema, sponges for the ceiling and walls, and floor carpet.
The bidding for this will be opened on the 9th of March.
The culturally important Olympus Cinema is being upgraded by a grant issued by the Indian government for high-impact community development projects, which was signed between Maldives and India in October last year.
