The Government of Japan has committed a grant of Seven Million Five Hundred Fifty-Four Thousand Nine Hundred Twenty-Four Japanese Yen (JPY 7,554,924), (equivalent to USD 69,953 approximately MVR 1,078,675) for the project to enhance the water security and disaster response capability in Dhanbidhoo Island, Laamu Atollunder its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
The Grant Contract was signed between Her Excellency Mrs.TAKEUCHI Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Ibrahim Mimrah, President of Hadhdhunmathee Dhanbidhoo Council.

The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
