Elon Musk's SpaceX operates the Starlink satellites, which provide satellite internet access coverage across the globe using over 1,700 low orbit satellites. Starlink enables high data rate activities that are not possible with satellite internet.
As such, Maldives' Minister of Technology, Aminath Shauna met with officials from SpaceX regarding the Starlink Satellite Internet Service this Sunday.
She met with SpaceX's Starlink Market Access Director, Ryan Goodnight, in order to discuss SpaceX's plans to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe. No other information about the meeting was discussed aside from this, which was shared on their official Twitter.
Even though it is technically possible for Starlink's satellite internet service to cover most of the global population, the service is actually can only be delivered to countries that have licensed SpaceX to provide service within any specific national jurisdiction. The beta internet service offering is only available to 25 countries, as of January 2022.
