Maldives Correctional Service To Adapt To The Digitalization Era With Its New E-Service Portal

One of the biggest disadvantage of living in a geographically dispersed island country is often having to live apart from the closest people to you. When you are put in prison, it is of a similar situation. In Maldives, inmates pretty much experiences both at the same time owing to the fact that prison facilities are located in different islands. There is no denying that this creates difficulties especially with regard to visitation issues and staying in contact with the outside world and vice-versa.

At present, visitation requests are submitted via paperwork. Hence, Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has launched an e-service portal hoping to resolve the issue at the very least. A ceremony was held today at the MCS Head Office to launch the portal which was guested by Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla.

Associated Total Offender Management Systems (A.T.O.M.S) is developed and maintained by the IT Department of MCS. The portal is designed to accept visitation requests ranging from lawyer meetings, family visits, marital visits in addition to scheduled meeting with managerial persons at MCS.

Currently, the portal runs on a trial version. The original version will be launched on 20th November. In order to use the portal, one must complete a registration. The utilization of the portal would save you a visit to an MCS Office and can also be considered environmental friendly.

We are looking forward to the launch of the original version of the portal to see how things play out from then on – hopefully efficient.
