Establishment of First-Ever Australian High Commission in Male'

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid warmly welcomed the announcement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia, Senator the Honourable Marise Payne of the Government of Australia’s decision to establish the first-ever Australian High Commission in Male’ in one of his most recent tweets.

He firmly believes that this historic step in the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Australia will facilitate greater levels of diplomatic engagement and reinvigorate the close partnership between our two countries.

Australia remains a strong development partner contributing vastly to the socio-economic advancements of the Maldives, especially in the areas of climate change, human resource development, democracy, human rights, maritime security, and combatting transnational crime.

He is confident that a permanent diplomatic presence of Australia in the Maldives will pave the way to expand the scope of the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries and strengthen the strong connections between the two nations.

The Government of Maldives will extend all necessary support and assistance to the Australian Government in the establishment of the High Commission.
