Maldives Signs Agreement with UNITAR.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed today between the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), at a ceremony held at the UNITAR Office in Geneva on February 3, 2022.

The agreement focuses on two main thematic areas, namely Diplomatic training skills development, and Climate Change Resilience, Disaster Management, and Development using geospatial information technologies.

Diplomatic training would greatly contribute to the further development of the Maldives' foreign service cadre, which is essential to effectively pursue the foreign policy objectives. The use of geospatial information technologies provides an innovative and effective tool to understand and address the challenges of climate change and environmental vulnerability.

The MOU was signed by H.E. Dr. Asim Ahmed, Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva, on behalf of the government of Maldives and Mr. Nikhil Seth, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director on behalf of UNITAR.
