Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. It is a genetic disease that is caused by changes to genes that control the way our cells function, especially how they grow and divide.

Depending on the type and how fast it spreads, it can be life-threatening without the chance of any treatment being effective. So, those who find out when they are in a later stage, have lower chances of recovery and remission.

Since it is a disease that takes without discrimination, any one of our family or friends could have it without knowing, Therefore, spreading awareness and showing support to those who have gotten the diagnosis is crucial.

For this, the Cancer Society of Maldives has started the hashtag, #CancerThajuribaa and have allowed cancer patients and survivors to share their story. They can use the premade templet which comes with both an English and Dhivehi version, and all they have to do is add their picture, name, and experience on it.
