Expired ID Cards to be in Use till End of July

Due to changes being brought because of Covid19 in the procedure to renew a Maldivian’s ID card, the Department of National Registry (DNR) said that expired ID cards can be used till the end of July this year.

In the official announcement made by DNR, they said they are making these changes so that people can come and go without too many people being in the department physically, at the same time. This is of course to help prevent the spread of the virus which is producing more and more cases by the day in recent weeks.

The limit for validity for cards that expire this year is July 31. With the new validity period, any place that requires a person to use their ID card will accept it, even if it has expired.

However, even if the limit has been extended, just as before, those in the Greater Male Area (GMA) will be able to apply to renew their ID cards via the online portal and those living in islands will be able to get new ID cards through their island council.

In the latest update, January 23, 2022, the number of cases was over 2.4k.
