The President constitutes the Maldives Hydrographic Service

On Wednesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established the Maldives Hydrographic Service, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense. The new authority was constituted under the discretion which is vested in the President by Section 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

According to a directive issued by the President’s Office, the number 487 should be used in all correspondence addressed to the new authority as per the numbering system for state agencies.

National Hydrographic Services are normally the organizations with the best expertise and information from which to provide the necessary baseline information from which maritime boundaries are delineated to establish the sovereign areas of the world's coastal States
