Dr. Ashraf Ahmed has been appointed as the new Director General of Health Services at the Civil Service Commission. The appointment was officiated by the Ministry of Health on January 9, 2022.
Dr. Ashraf has intense experience of over 14 years in the health sector, mainly clocking in his time at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) as a consultant in Internal. He started work in 1996 after graduating medical school from Crimea State Medical University, Simferopol, Ukraine.
Since then, he has worked in a number of hospitals and health centers both centrally and in the peripheral settings under Ministry of Health.
In 2010, Dr. Ashraf was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Health Services Corporation Ltd. He has also contributed significantly at Hulhumale Hospital as the Head of Institute during his tenure, including establishing the ICU, oral and maxillofacial surgery and ophthalmology services.
Dr. Ashraf is a familiar face in several important health related seminars and conferences held in the Maldives, particularly related to infection prevention, healthy aging, health governance and occupational health and safety.
In addition to his work at the government, he also has a special interest in conducting free outreach medical camps to provide specialist medical consultation for the people in the islands. Students of medical internship program at the Maldives National University learn from him as he is actively involving in teaching too.
