Winners of the “PITCH-UP: Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge” by MEERY project have been awarded Grants in a ceremony held on Monday.
46 youth aged between 18 to 32 were selected as 23 winning projects for seed funding from among 192 proposals submitted in this round. Shortlisted candidates underwent a 6-day guidance boot camp followed by an opportunity to submit a detailed proposal on their ideas. 50 ideas of 73 submitted went ahead to pitch the idea to a carefully curated panel including international judges.
A sum of MVR 12.4 million was granted for 6 projects in the fields of Tourism, 1 project from Tourism related Construction, 11 projects related to Agriculture, and 5 ideas pertaining to Information Communication technology. Co-founder and Managing Director of Voyages Maldives, Mr. Salah Shihab handed over the grants to the winners.
PITCH UP aims to encourage young entrepreneurs to create innovative, feasible, profitable and sustainable solutions to local problems. This is an amazing chance and great learning experience for youth interested in starting their own businesses.
