K.Maafushi Picnic Island Officially Handed Over To The Island Council

K.Maafushi Picnic Island, Vahmaafushi, took a hit, undergoing erosion when the tsunami occurred in 2004. This island has now undergone incredible changes thanks to the project completed by Maldives Transport & Contracting Company.


 
The official hand-over of the K.Maafushi Picnic Island by MTCC to the island council took place at the picnic island on December 28th, 2021. The ceremony was graced by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim, Maafushi Island Council President, Hassan Salaah and other officials.
 
The picnic island that is set to be a hit among the residents from the nearby islands including Maafushi and Male’ City. The project was contracted to MTCC by the Planning Ministry with a budget of MVR 10.9 million.


 
While the project has reclaimed two hectares of land, MTCC has stated that they would also be carrying out coastline conservation work. They also stated that all of the necessary tools and materials for the job have been delivered to the project site.
 
MTCC was also awarded the contract to build the bridge between Maafushi and the reclaimed land at the ceremony. The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Planning Ministry, Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed, and CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim. The 137-meter bridge will be built on a design-and-build basis.
