President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih bestows 106 of long serving employees from the public at the National Unity Day ceremony that took place at the Republic Square on December 26th, 2021.
The President's National Award for Public Service is the highest honor bestowed by the Presidency for persons who have served the country for more than 35 years and have been recognized as hardworking and faithful workers who have contributed to the advancement of their fields.
The National Awards Committee chose the award recipients, with women accounting for 26 of the 106 awardees. The honorees include public servants from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives Customs Service (MCS) and other uniformed forces who serve the country in various capacities.
At the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed in honor of the lives lost in the sad event of December 26th, 2004, Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. Moreover, a touching video report on the event and the excellent services of the late Umar Zahir, Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin honoree, who passed away on December 20th, 2021, was also honored during the ceremony.
