We said a temporary goodbye for our prestigious tourism industry for a period of almost three months due to the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the country. When the tourist activities resumed on July, it would not be a lie if I say that many of us had little hope for a positive outcome; but, we have been proven wrong, especially during the span of this month!
Not only did we hit our forecast tourist arrival mark of 21,000 in this month, we also recorded the highest number of daily tourist arrivals just yesterday, amounting to 1582 persons. On the occasion, Minister of Tourism, His Excellency, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom congratulated and thanke d all tourist industry partners and related authorities via Twitter recognizing their contributions to reach this milestone. Persons working in the industry is hopeful to welcome at least 500k by the end of the year. In order to do so, 80k tourists must arrive to the country within the remaining days of the year. As the upcoming period will be the winter season, the tourist arrivals are expected to increase significantly as Maldives is an ideal winter holiday destination owing to its tropical climate.
The increase in tourist arrivals is attributed to successful implementation of several safety and precautionary measures to ensure the safe and enjoyable experiences in the Maldives. Due to the increase in demand, international airlines have increased flight frequency to the country as well as those who had not resumed operations to the Maldives have plans to do so starting from the winter holidays.
