After a two-day visit to Gaafaru Island in the Kaafu Atoll to honor the 41st National Fishermen's Day, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih returned to Malé on Saturday afternoon. Vice President Faisal Naseem accompanied him.
President Solih inaugurated a 25-tonne ice plant built on the island during his visit. A 50-tonne cold storage was also built as part of the MVR 3.5 million project.
The President took part in a fish filleting competition and visited the Fisheries Expo, which was hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture. A memorial was unveiled by the Vice President at the harbor area.
President Solih spoke at length on the administration's vision to elevate and grow the fisheries sector at an official function held to commemorate the occasion. The President also visited with yellowfin tuna fishermen and the Gaafaru Island fishing community during his visit.
He discussed the island's development goals with members of the Gaafaru Island Council and Women's Development Committee on Saturday Morning. He also visited the health center and the police station.
