UNICEF, or the United Nations Children's Fund, is a United Nations agency that provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children around the world. With a presence in 192 countries and territories, the agency is one of the most well-known social welfare organizations in the world.

UNICEF In Maldives employs a Communications for Development (C4D) approach to understand people, their ideas, and the social norms that shape their lives in the Maldives and around the world. The organization uses this method to utilize & to figure out how to find answers that can help communities change for the better.

Since 1978, UNICEF in Maldives has introduced different tactics to ensure the children in Maldives are well-safe and protected of their rights. Every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment and experience a childhood they deserve. However, this may not be the case in two thirds of households.

Children are vulnerable to such threats opposed by the people who are supposed to protect them. Stealing them of their own childhood and letting them grow with the trauma that they will carry with them throughout their entire lives. UNICEF steps in to help them move on from such trauma’s and has introduced help care lines, carried out awareness programs and holds events to spread the awareness to different communities.

Moreover, UNICEF has also been thriving in the health industry, spreading awareness to the mother’s-to-be regarding the health of the unborn child as well as educating people about HIV/AIDS and also works in developing more child health specialized areas in the hospitals.

UNICEF works heavily in advocating the rights of the most vulnerable community in Maldives. Their advocates has reached the highest political areas in the government. To expand children’s access to educations, UNICEF works with partners to educate local island councils, parents, school staff and members of other institutions to promote disabled children’s right to education.

From UNICEF, the most important valuable lesson that we all learn is the vulnerability of humanity. We all need to come together to support the organization and their courses, helping them to raise more awareness in the important issues that are being addressed by the organization.

Happy Birthday UNICEF! Keep thriving.
